MxMob's laptop diagnostic checks up to 18 parts of a Windows laptop, MacBook or Chromebook without installing anything. Click Test all and it walks through each test in full screen. How to test a laptop
- Open mxmob.com/laptop-test in Chrome, Edge or Safari on the laptop, and turn the volume up.
- Click Test all, then Allow access for the camera and microphone. They're only used during the test.
- Follow each full-screen prompt. Bring a USB drive or mouse and a monitor cable if you want to check the ports.
- Review the score, retest anything that failed, and click Share report or Save PDF.

Buying a used laptop?
Run the full test before you pay, then work through the used laptop checklist. The checks that matter most:
- Battery health of 80% or more (Windows: powercfg /batteryreport; Mac: System Settings › Battery).
- The seller has signed out of their Microsoft account or Apple ID, and Find My Mac or BitLocker won't lock you out after a reset.
- No BIOS or firmware password, and the processor, memory and storage match the listing.
- No overheating warning in the benchmark, and the hinge holds the screen steady.
What a browser can't check

Can a website tell which laptop model I have?
It cannot read the brand or the model number. Windows, macOS and ChromeOS never tell a website whether it is a Dell, an HP or a Lenovo, and no browser hands over a serial number. What the test can show is the operating system, the graphics chip, the number of processor cores, the memory and the screen resolution, which together tell you roughly how fast and how old a laptop is. A MacBook is the exception: its screen size gives away the model, and Chrome and Edge also name the Apple M-series chip. For the exact model, open Settings › System › About on Windows, the Apple menu › About This Mac on a Mac, or read the sticker on the underside of the laptop.
Does the laptop test work on a MacBook and Chromebook?
Yes. It works in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Windows laptops, MacBooks and Chromebooks. Safari does not share battery or Bluetooth details with websites, so on a Mac those tests show you the exact System Settings screen to check instead.
Can a website check laptop battery health?
A browser can read the battery level and whether it is charging, but not the wear level. The test shows you how to get the real figure: run powercfg /batteryreport on Windows, open System Settings › Battery › Battery Health on a Mac, or run battery_test in crosh on a Chromebook. 80% or more of the original capacity is healthy.
