Check a Seller’s Phone Report

Enter the code from the seller’s link or badge image to open the report on mxmob.com, then use the checks below before you pay.

Codes are 8 letters and numbers. They never contain 0, O, 1, I or L, so a code read from a photo is easy to type.

Only trust the report on mxmob.com

A screenshot or PDF can be edited. The report that counts is the one you open yourself at mxmob.com/r/ followed by the code. Type it in above or scan the QR code with your camera, and check the address bar shows mxmob.com exactly. If the link points to any other website, don’t trust it.

How to read the report

  • Date: the report shows when the test ran. A report from three weeks ago says nothing about a drop last week. Reports expire after 30 days.
  • Measured vs marked by tester: results marked Measured came from the phone’s own sensors and inputs (for example touch, motion sensors, charging and cameras). Marked by tester means the seller answered a question such as “does the speaker sound clear?”. Those are the seller’s word, so check them yourself.
  • Reported by the browser vs described by the seller: the model and software version come from the browser. The phone name, carrier and notes are typed by the seller.
  • IMEI ending: only the last 4 digits are shown. When you meet, dial *#06# on the phone and make sure they match. If they don’t, the report is from a different phone.
  • Failed and skipped tests: a skipped test wasn’t checked at all. Ask the seller why, and test it when you meet.

What a report can’t tell you

Hardware tests can’t see account locks, finance or theft reports. Before you pay, make sure the seller signs out of iCloud (Find My) or removes their Google and Samsung accounts, factory resets the phone in front of you, and that the IMEI isn’t blacklisted. Then rerun the test yourself on the phone: it takes 5 minutes.

Check the phone isn’t stolen

Show the check for

United States

Enter the IMEI on the free CTIA Stolen Phone Checker at stolenphonechecker.org. It covers the major US carriers. A green result only means nobody has reported it, so still check the accounts are removed. Ask whether the phone is fully paid off: an unpaid installment plan can get it blacklisted later.

United Kingdom

Run a CheckMEND report (paid) with the IMEI. It shows whether UK networks have blocked the phone, whether it has been reported to the police, and whether there is outstanding finance on it.

Europe

Most EU countries don’t have a free public stolen-phone lookup. Networks share blocked IMEIs through the GSMA database, so the simplest check is to put your own SIM in the phone and make a call, and to ask the seller for the original receipt. A network shop or a paid IMEI check can confirm the status.

India

Send an SMS with KYM <15-digit IMEI> to 14422, or use the Sanchar Saathi app or website. If the result says the phone is blacklisted, duplicate or already in use, don’t buy it. Ask for the original bill and box, and check the IMEI on the box matches *#06#.

Before you pay

Work through the used phone checklist. It covers the IMEI, account locks, battery health, signs of repair and water damage, and safe payment, and it saves your progress as you go.
